Her parents moved to Dallas, Texas shortly after her birth. She was graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas. Later she received the BFA diploma from Stephens College in acting and also studied at British American Drama Academy. Her charismatic acting skills were apparent in the sci-fi adventure Frequency (2000) and in the cast of Dennis Quaid and Neil LaBute.
