Anita Ekberg

Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29/09/1931 until 11/01/2015) was an
Swedish actress well-known for her beauty and striking figure. Her iconic role
of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) earned her fame.
Ekberg was a major part of Italy, where she became a permanent resident in
1964.Anita Ekberg was born on 29 September 1931, in (Sweden) in Sweden, sixth
of eight children. Anita was a fashion model during her teens. Ekberg
participated in the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 following the advice of her
mother. The result was that she won the Miss Sweden contest. Even though she
spoke very little English, she went to the United States to compete for the
1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant until the pageant officially
became official in 1952). Ekberg wasn't the Miss Universe winner, but she was
among six semi-finalists. She did however earn an agreement with Universal
Studios as a starlet. As the starlet at Universal, she received lessons in
drama, elocution, dancing, horseback riding and fencing. She did a brief
appearance in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars
(1953), Take Me to Town (1953) and The Golden Blade (53).
